Gwiji Mama Fua Services

At Gwiji, our core activity involves connecting casual cleaners, locally known as ‘mama fua, with clients in need of their services, using a mobile app. A study from the Domestic Center of Training and Development estimates these women to be as many as one million in Nairobi alone.

Underprivileged and uneducated, they are unable to compete in the formal job market and rely on casual cleaning as their only source of income to provide for their children. However, they struggle to find clients for their services, limiting their daily average income to less than $2 a day.

Gwiji connects ‘mama fua’ with clients in need of their services. Using our app., these women are able to receive cleaning orders at the comfort of their homes, allowing them to perform 1 – 2 orders a day. Thus far, we have empowered more than 2000+ low-income women from the slums of Nairobi, raising their daily average incomes from less than $2 to an average of $8 a day. Additionally, we work with more than 500+ refugee women living in the slums of Nairobi, placing them in a better position to provide for their children.

Our mission is to empower 100,000 low-income women from the slums of Africa by 2030, raising their average income to $15 per day.
