Gwiji Afya

Elizabeth Mwangi, Founder Gwiji, donates 50 sanitary pads to St.Aloysius Gonzaga Sec. School

There was a time when women were shamed for having a period. The word ‘menstruation’ was perceived as reprehensible and out of place in everyday conversation, and women were looked upon as ‘dirty’ for their biology. Today, with sanitary pad technology, it is impossible to know when or whether a woman or a girl is having ‘her time of her month’ without her choosing to tell you. This discretion has allowed women and girls to attend school, work, and engage in everyday society without needing to take time off their duties to tend to their menses.

However, despite the revolution that sanitary pads represent in the lives of women and girls, not all women are able to access these essential items. At Gwiji, we see this as unfortunate. In the modern day, sanitary pads are essential for the dignity and operation of women and girls, who have become an integral part of economic society. In this spirit, we donate sanitary pads to needy women under our Gwiji Afya Program, so they can live and work freely without shame.

Towards this objective, we would like to donate 10,000 sanitary pads by 2025, and we call upon our customers to support our efforts through placing cleaning orders on our mobile app.
